Are you an artist looking for a chance to showcase and sell your work? If you live in McLennan County, TX, you have a great opportunity to do just that! Creative Waco and Cultivate 7Twelve are hosting temporary stores in October as part of the Levitt AMP Waco Music Series. This is an amazing chance for local artists to display and market their unique creations. Unfortunately, the lack of local support has caused several private art galleries to close in recent years, including the Croft Art Gallery and the Silver Maple Gallery. This has reduced the market for Waco artists who were hoping to show their work locally and make enough money to stay in the city. Creative Waco's “Make It In Waco” initiative is working to change this. They want pop-up stores like these to be common in the city, as they understand the importance of face-to-face contact between the artist and the customer.
Any organization or initiative based in McLennan County that has art and culture as part of its mission can receive funding, but grants must translate into the generation of new programs or artistic works. In addition to displaying and selling visual art, Cultivate 7twelve also hosts artwork in other forms, such as musical performances, social events and farm-to-table dinners. This is a great way for artists to share their creative process with others and engage with concert attendees in a memorable and meaningful way.
